An inspiration - Lizzie Velásquez

How does it feel when you are touted as the ugliest person on the planet? You feel it's the end of the world when your photos and videos go viral on the internet with people pouring in their hate comments over your distorted looks and figure.

That's exactly what happened to Lizzie Velásquez, a 26 year old girl from Austin, Texas, who suffers from a rare congenital disease that impedes her body from accumulating fat. Till date, she hasn't weighed more than 29 kg and is blind in the right eye. Few years back, some nuisance creators posted a 8 second video of hers on internet and the video immediately went viral garnering her comments full of hate and disgust. In some of the YouTube comments, she was even referred to as 'it' and a 'monster' while others encouraged her to commit suicide.

That incident left a deep scar on her mind and soul and after being sunk in misery for days, she decided to redefine the word 'ugly'. She did not let the world define her fate on the basis of her external appearance. Instead she pushed herself forward and set life-changing goals for her. Since then, she has authored three best-selling books that have garnered worldwide attention. She graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Communication Studies in the year 2012. Her positive attitude towards life also landed her an opportunity to deliver motivation talk at TED event - "How do YOU define yourself" - a video that has hit millions of views since it was first published on YouTube.

Today, she's an active motivational speaker, has delivered talks over 200 conferences and rigorously campaigns against bullying. In her own words -"I didn't sink down to their level. Instead, I got my revenge through my accomplishments and determination. In the battle between the 'World's Ugliest Woman' video vs. me, I think I won."
